Our Story
Rooted in Montréal and grounded in the spirit of connection, Shakti Studio was born in 2020 as a response to a changing world. Founder and local yoga teacher and naturotherapist, Angela Boismenu, created Shakti to offer a sanctuary for students navigating the isolation and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. What began as an online studio offering classes in yoga and meditation quickly grew into a vibrant, inclusive community. A community built on care, compassion, and the belief that everyone deserves access to yoga, no matter their circumstances.
Each co-founder contributes something essential: a commitment to practice, a deep respect for yoga’s roots, and a desire to create a space where everyone belongs. Together, they embody Shakti’s spirit, making yoga not only a physical practice, but a collective experience of connection and transformation.
Co-founder Harry Tindley brings a grounded belief in what Shakti stands for at its core: community, connection, and accessibility. His approach centers on meeting people where they are, helping to create a space that feels welcoming, supportive, and real. His presence reflects a shared intention to build something meaningful…where yoga extends beyond the mat and into how we care for and show up for one another.
Alongside Angela and Harry, Shakti is shaped by a growing circle of founding teachers, including Frances Vicente, Nina Konjini, Vanessa McLean, Andrea Peloso, Emilie-Claude St-Amour Maillé, Sarah Murray, and Razane Hanna, with more voices continuing to join. Each brings their own lived experience, teaching style, and perspective, helping to cultivate a space that reflects the diversity of the community it serves.
In 2026, Shakti Yoga was reborn through community, collaboration, and the shared intention to create an accessible, authentic, and inclusive space. Now a studio built and owned by dedicated teachers, Shakti continues to evolve through the passion of those who practice, teach, and gather here.
At Shakti, we welcome every body and every story. We offer regular group classes, pay-what-you-can yoga, workshops, and events that nurture both body and spirit. From powerful vinyasa flows to restorative yoga to sound baths and meditation, each gathering invites you to connect with yourself, with others, and with the energy that unites us all.
