Yoga 101 going ahead this afternoon

We are re-opening for the afternoon and the Yoga 101 class, schedule for 12:3-1:30 today will go ahead as planned.

Wow! It’s been a record week of snow closures. This morning, again due to the blizzard conditions and wind warning, our morning classes have been canceled. We will be updating at 11am to determine if Yoga 101 will go ahead as scheduled at 12:30 (Torbay Road location). Please check back for that update. Stay home and stay safe today!

Well we’ve been having some interesting weather this week! Due to the road conditions and expected snow fall this morning both locations are closed. We will have an update on the voicemail systems and online this afternoon. We expect classes to go ahead as scheduled in the evening. Enjoy your snow day, stay warm and safe.

Advance Your Asana, pre-registered session

Regardless of which style of yoga you practice or teach, this course will give you new tools to advance your practice of the physical yoga asana (poses). Inspired by Meaghan’s studies of the elegant Anusara yoga system, and its 5 Universal Principles of Alignment, this course will offer an in-depth exploration of the body in the context of intermediate-level asana. Come with an expectation to learn something new and have some serious fun! Pre-requisites: at least 6 months of yoga practice in any style of yoga.

Fri Jan 20th, 10am Hatha Flow CANCELED

Shakti Yoga Studios will be closed this morning, Friday, Jan 20th due to the poor weather and road conditions. This means that the 10 am Hatha Flow Mixed Level will not be going ahead this morning at Mount Pearl. The forecast indicates that the weather will clear up by noon so we plan to be open for PM classes unless otherwise indicated. Happy Snow Day!
Valentine’s Day Partner Yoga Class

This Valentine’s day celebrate with someone you love by sharing your time, your breath and your yoga in a special Valentine’s day partner yoga class. This class is for yogis of all levels (beginners welcome). Bring your partner, your mom, your sister, your best friend, anyone that you are comfortable touching and sharing your yoga with.
This is a pre-registered session and will take place at the Torbay Road studio. Call to reserve your space. Date: Feb 12th, Time: 2:00pm Cost: $14+ tax per person.

If you’re new to yoga, congratulations on taking the first step and visiting our website! We have many offerings for people who have never ever done yoga before, or who haven’t done it for a long time, or even for those who love yoga but like to keep their practice at a more beginner-level, moderate pace. Here are a few notes to make your first visit to our studio an enjoyable one:
Our class schedules can be found online via our Google Calendar application. Click here for Torbay Road schedule and here for Mount Pearl schedule.
All classes are drop in unless they specify “Pre-reg” in the title of the classes.
For drop in classes:
- please arrive at least 15 minutes early on your first visit. You’ll need to fill out a waiver form and purchase a pass. See our prices page for pass information. You can also purchase your passes online (from our Prices page) and skip the in-studio line up.
- come in quietly! In the evenings there’s most likely a class in session when you arrive (you’ll know there’s a class in session when our inside, French doors are closed). Our studio is small and sound really does travel! So as not to disturb the final relaxation of the class ahead of you please open the door gently, unzip your coat and boots quietly, and leave purchases and questions for once that class is over.
- bring a yoga mat if you have one. If not, we have rentals available for $2+tax.
- shoes can be left at the door and coats, bags, purses etc. should be left in the reception area of the studio. If you have valuables that you don’t want to part with it’s best not to bring them with you. At this time of the year our classes are quite busy and therefore there’s no extra room in the studio for personal belongings.
- if you have specific conditions or injuries please let the teacher know before the class starts
- for each consecutive visit please arrive at least 10 minutes early.
For Pre-Registered classes, such as Yoga 101, 6am Power Flow, and our Valentine’s Day Partner Yoga class, please see the pre-registered sessions page. You can register online or in studio for these special events.
We hope this information is helpful to you on your first visit to Shakti Yoga Studio. Those of us that have seen the profound benefits of yoga in our bodies and in our lives love to share this practice with others. We look forward to seeing you in class!
