Introduction to Teaching Restorative Yoga

Curious about teaching Restorative Yoga?  This workshop will give you the confidence to offer a safe, supportive and nurturing restorative yoga class.

We will explore:
  * the theory and benefits of restorative yoga
  * creative use of bolsters, blankets, blocks, straps, and chairs in a variety of postures
  * modifications and variations for all levels of practice
  * how to support specific injuries and health conditions
  * effective sequencing of postures
  * use of mantra, pranayama and meditation in a restorative practice
  * how to incorporate restorative yoga poses into any yoga class

Spring Cleanse for May 2012

Here is how it works. We will post our 30 day challenge boards at the studios for the month of May. You just write your name and your challenge and check each day that you have met your challenge.

Here are some ideas:
  * Make water your only drink for 30 days.
  * Eat 6 vegetables every day.
  * Remove something from your diet: wheat, salt, meat, processed food…
  * Cook one meal from scratch daily.
  * Remove coffee and pop from your diet.
  * Mind Cleanse! Meditate 5 minutes daily.
  * Do asana every morning or evening.
  * Anything that will inspire you and help make your Spring super

Now accepting applications for Spring/Summer semester of Energy Exchange program.

Shakti Yoga Studio’s energy exchange program ensures that our yoga classes are accessible to dedicated students regardless of their financial situation. Participants in this program work one 2-hour cleaning shift at the studio once a week (at the same time each week) in exchange for unlimited free classes.

This is not a volunteer position. We are searching for reliable workers who can demonstrate diligence and attention to detail. If you have a strong work ethic and love yoga this might be the program for you.

New Class! Gentle Yoga on Tuesdays in Mount Pearl

image This month we are excited to introduce yoga teacher & physiotherapist Andrea Hann to the Mount Pearl schedule. She will be teaching a Gentle yoga class on Tuesdays at 5:30pm. She specializes in working with students with low bone density, chronic pain and arthritis. Her gentle yoga class will be suitable for students with these issues as well as students simply interested in breathing deeply and gently opening the body with awareness.



Yoga 101 starts April 3

If you are new to yoga and want to learn the basics in a comfortable, supportive environment, Yoga 101 is the class for you! In this four week session you will learn the fundamental yoga postures, breathing exercises and relaxation methods. Each class will explore new ideas and techniques so that at the end of class #4 you are prepared for a full-length practice.

Next Hypnobirthing Session to take place in June 2012!

The HypnoBirthing session is held on Sunday mornings from 10:00am-12:30pm for 5 consecutive weeks. Learn yoga breathing and self relaxation techniques to remove birth fear resulting in a shorter, more comfortable and beautiful birth for you and your baby. Comfortable, calm, empowering, bonding, even painless are all words that have been used by HypnoBirthing moms to describe their birth experiences. Find out how you can use HypnoBirthing to change your perception of birth and in turn change your birth experience.

This session is for mom-to-be and her birth partner. See our HypnoBirthing page (under ‘Classes’) for course details and testimonials. The next session is scheduled for June 3, 10, 17, 24, July 8, 2012 (no class on July 1).

Advance Your Asana, pre-registered session

Regardless of which style of yoga you practice or teach, this course will give you new tools to advance your practice of the physical yoga asana (poses). Inspired by Meaghan’s studies of the elegant Anusara yoga system, and its 5 Universal Principles of Alignment, this course will offer an in-depth exploration of the body in the context of intermediate-level asana. Come with an expectation to learn something new and have some serious fun! Pre-requisites: at least 6 months of yoga practice in any style of yoga.

Dates: Mar 4-Apr 15 (no class March 25 or April 8)
Time: Sundays, 2-3:30pm
Instructor: Meaghan Burridge
Price: $70+tax ($55 for students with a current 12 month membership – save 20%)
